Toronto just voted to make it way harder for landlords to kick out tenants

Toronto councillors have approved a motion to protect tenants from "renovictions." Landlords are now required to follow additional steps when issuing an N13 notice, including giving 120 days notice, offering the chance to return post-renovations, and providing compensation. A new bylaw mandates landlords to obtain a $715 renovation license within seven days of issuing an N13, with penalties for non-compliance. The bylaw aims to prevent false evictions and ensure good faith in issuing N13s, addressing issues for tenants and small landlords.
